What do women need in San Luis Obispo County?
The Women’s Legacy Fund asked this question in 2010.
To better understand the needs of women in San Luis Obispo County, the Women’s Legacy Fund set out to gather and review all the available data on the local status of women and girls. We listened to what women of all ages and ethnicities were saying. We learned that women need to know more about local services and how to access them. In response, the Women’s Legacy Fund worked with a collaborative of local organizations to create this online resource. Our goal is to offer a current, centralized source of information that helps connect clients with service providers and providers with available services for their clients.

Alpha Pregnancy and Parenting Support
A young mother is experiencing intimate partner violence with her boyfriend, who is father to their 7-month-old boy. She was referred to a therapist via the Postpartum Depression Support Line after her boyfriend called seeking help because “all she does is take care of the baby. She won’t work.” The mother was suffering from mild depression and revealed that she is a victim of intimate partner violence. She was referred to the North County Women’s Resource Center. Since she is not allowed to have a phone, the Support Line follows up by email to ensure she and her baby are safe and she is now connected with the Resource Center.
